Not good when you get those days when nowt goes right.Had to combine some unripe barley this aft to get it out of the way, couldn't stop the combine from chucking it over the back.
Moved across the road into some wheat, still chucking it over the back??
Checked everything, crawled around underneath it and inside, sieves not blocked etc etc.
Carry on, still bad.
Had another look inside, twigged that the top sieve was not moving when I moved the switch, even though it said it was.
Then when walking back to the van in the other field I noticed I'd left a triangle.
I could cry.
Make a new shaft out of scaffolding pole?Out splitting logs this evening - must do about 20 ton every year, all by hand with the splitting axe, so I suppose I just take it for granted how to do the job. One of my workshop tenants saw me at it and said could he have a go? He's a practical kind of guy, so I handed the axe over and had to stop him within 3 seconds. Both hands on the end of the handle, hoist it up, waving it around, disaster coming, so I showed him how to do it. Again and again and again, but he just couldn't get the movement co-ordinated, then he brought it down, missed the log and snapped the handle.
He was fairly apologetic, and I didn't make a fuss, these things happen. His parting words: "I'd like another go when you've repaired it."

I was meaning as a safer alternative to timber for the dangerous operator. Would be bloody horrible to use though, I used a mell once with a steel shaft and the vibration was ridiculous!A nice piece of ash would be better!! Plenty of them available now for a while
Put phone on top of car opened boot
Dont think you can blame yourself for that looks like its started to go,by rust mark on it , can you get it off, easily and weld it upView attachment 904679
Not sure if I’m glad or not that I decided to crawl under the combine and grease the inside of the tracks this morning, at least it’s in the yard!!
Looks like it's a casting. It's a tell-tale shade of green though...Yes looks like it’s been cracked for a while, had recall before harvest to replace same part on other track with up rated one. Have to take track of as is part of main support frame, don’t think it will weld.
Yes, green paint on the crack where it was cracked before it was painted.Looks like it's a casting. It's a tell-tale shade of green though...
Classic high cycle fatigue fracture. The crack looks weird, the crystalline structure of the metal isn't uniform??
Why did they replace one but not the other?View attachment 904683
Modified part on other track.
