Long-tailed / Bottle tits back here; never a sign of them at all in the Winter, but almost to the day every year they re-appear at the Spring Equinox.

Really looking forward to seeing the swallows back after a bloody miserable and wet Autumn and Winter here, just the sight of them makes me smile, wonderful little birds. :)
I'm inundated with hundreds of crows, they seem to be plucking the moss out of the fields in large patches. Love crows.
Soon have large numbers of geese, the advance guard have turned up already they seem to do the same thing. Not so keen on the geese.
They must be eating all my worms🙄

Interesting relationship you have with crows; got any sheep...?
Got sheep coming out of my ears at the moment.
Crows are quiet interesting when you study them, different mobs from different roosts wheeling around to then land on the ground in a big group that then takes of into separate mobs again. They go through the fields turning over the sheep droppings and eating whatever is sheltering underneath, worms and bugs I presume.

You sure they aren't rooks?

One rook is a crow, lots of crows are rooks - that is what I was told.
Rook fan here, I agree. Bills like crows but not, longer more pointed and greyish. They're very social and entertaining. Always walking and poking the ground. Never seen crows work together, only gathering at dusk in winter to roost.
And clever! My neighbour had one of those spinning chimney guard things. We watched a crow stick a twig in it to stop it spinning, mate goes in with another stick 👍

I double checked the hoards of crows, they were definitely crows. How do they pair up before nesting and breeding, maybe they mob up briefly then disperse? Only normal solitary numbers here now.

Strange creatures. In the village there's an enormous old tree full of crow's nests. The strutting and preening is hilarious, watching them stake claim to their spot. Doing the Glasgow cowboy walk, wings held out at a jaunty angle, parading up and down the large limbs 😂

Home repairs are under way now, with the odd stick being brought in for reinforcement and redecorating.

Sounds like a rookery.
