To answer a few of the questions above. I started recording Blackies for easy care traits in 1979, then started a nucleus flock of 400 ewes that was recorded by signet in the mid 80's, and was a founder member of the Blackface Sire Reference Group in 1990. The nucleus flock has been recorded ever since. The best recorded ewe lambs go into the nucleus flock and the remainder go into my unrecorded flock. I uually keep 15 to 20 of the best Ram Lambs. The best 5 or 6 Ram lambs are used in the recorded flock and after seeing their progeny, the best 2 or maybe 3 will be used as shearlings in the recorded flock. I usually sell 5 or 6 shearlings usually to outwith the group to other breeders who are trying to improve their flocks, the remaining Shearlings then go to the 1100 non recorded ewes.
Can you tell us what the flock improvement you have achieved in terms of output etc since you started Signet recording? If I recall correctly the achievements of your flock and the flocks of other members of your group were pretty mind blowing
