I can't understand why we still have this rule. It is entirely inapplicable to the UK. I wonder if there'll be a derogation in Wales ? I doubt it.

It was designed to stop monoculture cereals on European farms. DEFRA have just been implementing EU rules. I doubt it would still be in place post Brexit but expect some rules on crop diversity in the Agriculture bill.

Ned to be thinking about this. Due to these exceptional weather circumstances Government will provide derogation. But this is unlikely to occur until the new year at earliest once situation pans out. Precedence set lat year.

will is probably too hopeful id go with might. Thinking about it and if we dont get some more sown we could be affected. what about a crop of cheap mustard seed or even spring sown hss osr on some of the fallow but call it forage then destroy it as you would if it was bare fallow dont think there is any rule about taking a crop to harvest just whats there in may?

2018 the three crop rule was suspended ( here in N.I. at least ) dur to the conditions in the backend of 2017, next to no winter crop went in.

Push comes to shove some of your winter wheat could become spring wheat......just saying like.

Maybe but I shall be very surprised if the minister does not engage with the industry in such exceptional circumstances, if we get to the April period and the farming industry, probably through representations from the industries usual collective organisations such as NFU, TFA, CLA, feels it appropriate to put forward a case for a derogation.

It is a little early at this stage before May 15 2020 to be to effected by three crop rule. After all individual farmers may wish to plant alternative crops to plan if commercially viable.

Time will tell.

Spin a bit of cheap grass seed on the 5% and call it temporary grass.
just for discussion ,problem with that is has to stay till july and could well have seeded prior to destruction or removal as forage of some sort and grass seed spring sown to ensure a crop as / the rules isnt cheap .Im still hoping to get some more cereals in before xmas as here only in a few years has spring cereals been profitable .I can see little point in establishing any crop unless its got a good chance of making a return or helping to improve the soil and future potential but nor do I like the idea of having more than necessary uncropped non producing land

Only agronomy restrictions apply if used as EFA. if just as a 'crop' for three crop rule there are no specific restrictions. So could sow one day (May14) record land use correctly May 15 as TG01 and cultivate May 16.
