tires on 16 inch rims

What widest tires I can mount on 16 inch rims? I know I can mount 650 tires on 18 inch rim, but not sure 16 inch will be ok for the same tire...

16" rims don't give much choice to go wide, 17" is different,. 500 /50 r17 is a popular size.

16 inch wide, r38. It is a john deere rear rim. Can't find wider ones for sale at the moment..
