Harvest 2017 is now officially over!
Last field of wheat never got to with the combine, got the mower & only tried to bale it as we could do with the straw, but it just ended up back out through the rollers.

Was going to ring for help then thought I have the digger here, first thing I did was break the chain, then had to drop spreader off.

IMG_6772.JPG

Still wouldn’t come out so put 2 spanner’s under pedals of digger & let it crawl as chain was now too short to let tractor crawl.
IMG_6775.JPG

Then digger threw the track but managed to get it back on before it came fully off.

I think this is a perfect example of how single handed farmers have the ingenuity to solve their own problems and to work around a situation without having to call on others. No doubt H+S might take a different view but I suspect we could deal with them too! I find that once you apply some thinking there are very few jobs that require more than one person.

I was thinking the same. I don’t think the public realise the efforts and potential dangers we go to to get the job done even if it’s just trying to save a bob or two to earn a crust. If that were a big industry job how many thousands would it have cost to sort that pickle out?

I’ve often thought that when lambing an awkward sheep and how many clipboards I would have there to watch or assist: catching crew, veterinarian, clean up crew....... I reckon whilst I had my arm up a ewe I would have three people watching at least.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
