Put a new treatment plant in for my mum during the week.old septic tank been not right for years and top had collapsed but she won’t spend any money but I’d had enough of regularly ridding it out.dig hole for tank and broke through water main that I never knew about.it was 1200 down too.then had a soak away on left of hole in top pic that made things interesting.knicked an electric cable too which delayed things a bit but all In and working and just tidying up to do when ground dries up.mummy towers in bottom pic along with farm dog Penny who barked continually.

Have quartered Norfolk over the last few days (busmans holiday) and I thought that the rape in general was looking pretty well, didn’t see many fields with bad areas, unlike quite a few seen on the trip back through the midlands.
There does seem to be a massive amount of spring barley sown though, I wonder how much of this follows a failed OSR crop?
Light land after roots more likely

Last year we got the opportunity to sell an out farm and buy land next door. So we are now making a lane to join up the two separate lanes on the two pieces of land.

Up the side of a field

Across the top of the field

Then through the fence to the new bit of land and up the side of that field.

The lane will then be bounded off with a new hedge.

Various reasons really, even with irrigation yields and samples were always disappointing, no shed for storing so had to be sold off the field, growing other things at the time that paid better.
Reason I asked is that potato growing is hard to get into and with the lack of profitable break crops it seems quite tempting from over the hedge....

Know what you mean, have tried linseed, canary seed and field beans recently all were disappointing for one reason or another.
Tempted by sugar beet but when you see acres of it being grown don't think my 25 acres is going to make alot of difference. I just drill a bit more spring barley to fill the ground up as it's just another day on the combine to clear it up.
