So the last 3 days of my life have been spent on a slurry transfer,4000m of 5” pipe out and 3 pumps
The only down side is we did have a visit from some pikeys yesterday that thought they would help themselves to deisel out of the loadal holding the gantry over the road

Another day, another visit.

an hour of hanging around (during which I knapsacked a few more thistles) and the Logistics Corp turned up.

Lots of interesting gear in there.

all to get rid of another WW2 incendiary.

I videoed both explosions as they blew it up - it didn't work properly the first time, no idea how to load them here though and it wasn't that impressive, the soldiers didn't take my advice that the field - after months of no rain was a tad hard, they spent ages bouncing round on a spade to dig out a little hole.

This was the fourth one that they had done for me in 2 years or so, it was the third bomb that they had dealt with today.

Yes over 100 hours a week at the minute. Silage. Umbilical. Ground work for maize. Drilling maize. Got 1000ac in another 2500 left. And starting forage rye tomorrow aswell.

Exactly , because one day he will not be there and you will see that bent pto or broken casting in some neglected corner of the farmyard and remember.

Apologies if I some times come across as giving my old man a really hard time. I’m not going to lie, we do occasionally have heated debates and voices get raised but generally I stay pretty calm and I’m fairly laid back and easy going.

When he told me about the 6630 not a single cross word was said, which I think he took harder than getting a bollocking actually, but at the end of the day it’s just a machine it’s insured and I can fix it .

What he does get a bollocking for though is doing things that are just plain stupid or dangerous! And I’ll be honest they do occur more regular over the past couple of years, if I’m hard on him it’s in the hope that he thinks about what he’s doing and makes a change for everyone’s safety.

Simple fact is yes I would miss him if he wasn’t there, but even worse if he wasn’t there from doing something daft! His dad only finished working on the farm in his late 70’s but he knew it was time to stop operating heavy equipment, he’s now 96 and still keeps an eye on us.

Here’s an interesting fact for you though, my old man is the single most expensive thing on the farm, he cost more annually than any other business expense! But hey it’s only money

Anyway here’s what’s been happening today, first job was a 7530 which was leaking fuel and running rough.

It was the usual perished pipes and O-ring missing of the glass bowl

Then Call at the dealer to pick up the parts for the 6630 (no pics). And spent the rest of the afternoon having quality time with the old man altering the beet drill from 50cm to 20” spacing.
Thanks to @Flat 10 for the useful tips, it’s save us a lot of adjustments.
Then went and tried it on some bare ground to make sure everything matches up, goes round, set the markers etc. Looking good up to now, just need to swap the tractor wheels and put some seed through it now

Have you factored in how much an alternative operative would cost too? You could have a student or apprentice which would cost you little in wages and lots in stupid mistakes.

Or you could hire a full time person (and probably house them too) for as little as £40K pa and they would still break stuff.

Either way I’d probably be better off financially to be honest! It’s a big can of worms that I don’t really want to open on a public forum to be honest! But to cut a long story short, you can’t have your cake and eat it, family or not you can only take out what you put into a business! Anyway that’s all I’m saying, which is probably to much
