Family trip round York railway museum today, little fella had a great time

Would make a good grain store this shed​

Even had the capsule that Tim Peak came back from the space station in on display.

Little fella (and me) enjoyed this this bit

This one was built not far from me

Had an all round good day , of to see the sights in the city centre tomorrow.

I pulled one of the boundary stones out of the river back in the Autumn where the bank had given way. It dates from the 1828 perambulation of the manor.
Today, it was reinstated a few feet in with due ceremony and a couple of bottles of beer.

They used to carry out a perambulation or walk around the bounds of the manor every so often so that everyone knew where the estate ended. This one dates from 1828 when the manor changed hands and the points along the way were marked with stones. We have other stones out in the meadows to show where some of the strip boundaries were located from the days before the enclosure.
There is a Saxon perambulation of the manor from about the 7th century where they wrote down all the landmarks,and although the experts haven't worked it all out yet, they think "Thon haran withig" refers to "The hoary (ancient) willow" alongside our stone. It split into the river last year but we have trimmed it back and hopefully it will be good to go on for a few more centuries.

They still beat the bounds in Oxford..... causes a bit of a furore in Marks & Sparks where one of the boundaries remains. 5th Thursday after Easter.....

It looks like someone has bale wrapped this structure!
It's World famous and gives its name to the Town.

It's a bridge, but which one?
It was the first of its kind in the World.

Looking end on the left hand side is still open, the right hand has had the surface removed.

The base of the bridge are cast iron plates.

He was just hanging about.

Opposite side.

Compressors, generators, breathing air supply for the people inside the wrapping.

If I can remember I'll take another when the wrapping is off. It's supposed to be finished late this year.

I hope you enjoyed your trip. My cousins are coming over from Goderich in September they emigrated to canada in the mid sixties.
