I always carried spanners for the implement behind + a few pins wouldn't like to see Vice grips they are the best but have there place in the welding shop repairing chewed up parts, rarely wanted spanners for the tractors unless had stabiliser bars that needed a spanner, then had to be a big-un, going round steam fairs stalls often have part sets of good makes for nothing, whats annoying is missed sizes, often in AF 25/32 I have an very old impact set they fit what it says absolutely, so why are new ones loose, seen missing in new odd sets in MM 10,11,12,13,14,-16,17-19,20,22 and so on think must have lost one look in the lid and no, its just the odd set ones that are missing in other are not, so need three sets to get a full house, why. luckily go back a bit and got Whit-worth find fit better on some mm suppose the bolt heads are made to a poor standard. I do resize impact sockets soften out machine and re-harden, again get the odd one, did the other day, Transit wheel nuts 21mm is a good fit not the crap thing in its kit, even the jack is lacking, impossible if loaded. I often spend more time making something just to save an original part, say to people it a left handed thread you won't get one of those it needs to be made, No taps available for that rate of thread.Well I do make taps big-uns if need be.

I took a similar deal earlier in the year,
I had an issue with the batteries not charging, I put the batteries on my old charger and they charged fine so had to be the charger, was told to take the whole thing back , drill , batteries, and charger, and they would just replace the lot, so I returned it but put back two older 5 ah batteries instead ot the new ones , and got a whole new set up back so I actually got 4 batteries

£124 is the price of two 5ah batteries
yeah £55 for a 5ah battery and £36 normal price not special, ( vat extra) for that same bottom of the range combi drill bought as separates else where, (ITS or Fastfix.) no need for a charger if youve already got one.
Screwfix is always dear for makita stuff and a special deal will be only what you can get it for elswhere as far as ive seen
Besides i find Dewalt tools far better quality than makita ,had a few on off swtiches give trouble pita on them ,dewalt has a more solid feel altogether .

and Yes Halfords got some very good deals on atm.

The Screwfix price is still £22 cheaper overall than the prices you've quoted for buying the batteries and the combi drill separately. Plus you get a charger and carry case thrown in. I understand Makita won't be for everyone, but it is a genuinely good deal.

My trusted Makita combi drill gave up a few weeks back after 10 years service, this new one should be an upgrade, being brushless.

Bit of a dirty low thing to do, you’ve just openly admitted to being a conning ****! Maybe all those auctioneers aren’t as bad as you make out…
They opened the case up and had a quick glance , surely Thier responsibility to check if they had checked I left the price sticker on from when I bought them elsewhere years ago , I notice you have MP in your user name
MP, that's a role ,surely up there with auctioneers in honesty and integrity

yes the little impact wrench and drill ive got here have been very good i must admit, and not dear ones.

mind you 2 or 3 other tools have had switch problems ,and others have had to be pressed a few times to work.

Its just that i find Screwfix these days dearer generally than a lot of other places ,they used be more competitve maybe .

On Halfords sale atm and Tool chests and boxes ,are particularly well discounted i see.

I've had to change the brushes twice on my Makita battery grinder, and the switch broke as-well, but was fixable. Hopefully things become more reliable as all the manufacturers moves towards brushless as standard.

I am both the former and the latter.
I think it's called opportunistic , hey all those years working with bent and dishonest individuals has rubbed off
No it’s called thieving pure and simple!

It's from the same mould as the sweet little old lady who used to buy potatoes off me years ago.
I would take her a bag of spuds, for about £3, they were always "plenty of money", and then when I took some more about 3 mths later, she had saved the "pig taters" from the last bag, in a box, to show me.
They were a different variety, and had different coloured soil on them to the ones I had sold her.
I'm not particularly ashamed to admit that I told her she'd better get the buggers from elsewhere in future.

My dad and g dad were mobile greengrocers in Blackpool so i can relate, when it was my turn i stopped that job after about 1 month, not nice to do when its been going a long time but definitely for the best .
Then covid came and it would have been busy ....
Dealing with the general public is not always pleasant.
