Tractor for tractor test

Are there any specifics for a tractor to use for a road tractor test other than the normal things? 140hp claas on 520 tyres so small compared to most tractors these days. Obviously number plate, all lights working etc anything else?

Taxed, insured all electric items if fitted working, mirrors and windows clean.
Brakes and handbrake working, all in all road worthy condition.

Maximum width 2.45m IIRC until you're 17. Also limits on axle spacing, so actually very little modern kit you can take on the road.

did my 12 years ago on a grey fergie........my logic at the time was it would be easier on a a smaller and simpler tractor.....plus it was the only tractor we owned at the time that was "roadworthy3 by the book. I passed so my lgic cant have been that flawed, as said earlier though the width limit is 2.45m, so as long as its under that width and is completly roadworthy, all lights, indicators, working etc. itll be fine

I fall into the select club of those that failed their test the first time around! Was absolutely gutted at the time as well. Scarily this will be 30 years ago this December 12th at 10.45am... not that it's etched in the memory banks at al!

To the OP- back then it was a maximum width to outside of tyres of 2.45 metres. Wasn't aware of tractor axle spacing limits though? Aside from that if it's fitted it needs to be working is a good rule of thumb. Nothing to stop you turning up on a little 35 if it's tidy and up together.

I've heard stories of examiners getting in the cab where buddy seats are fitted but was always under the impression that they should conduct the test from outside the vehicle.

Younger brother took his 16 yr old test on a tractor with a number plate on each side and none on the rear - Its good when the examiner actually knows the law....

Apologies, my post was very badly written. The axle spacing limits are on trailers, when you pass your test there’s very little you can actually take on the road

Yes, that rings a bell- didn't the wording used to be something 2 wheeled trailer or 4 wheels close coupled which ruled out turntable trailers? This is going back some years now but the only dimensions mentioned back then were the width of the tractor itself.

Something like that. I never took my tractor test, as we only had one tractor and implement I could have driven on the road, so saved my money.
