Be interesting to see how much of a jump in price others have seen when changing like for like models in the last few years. New Claas Arion 530 bought in 2018, exact same tractor bought in 2023. 26k/38% increase. Are other brands similar ?

We're all "grateful" fertiliser has reduced in price to now just about double what it was couple of years ago

We're all "relieved" red diesel is back below a pound a litre

Daft hill ewe farmers like myself are "happy" the Muslim seasonal demand has put £20 a head on our wee tail enders

Enjoy what you have while you can, because the really filthy rich and wealthy want what little we've left

Not many look for positives on this forum. Prefer just to moan.

There are plenty. I managed to get out of bed this morning.

Why is nobody doing certified rebuilds like cat do? Will be as new at 2/3’rds of new price. New tractors are not much better than a 10- 15 year old one as far as I can see? I’d happily take an as new 824 turbomatic or an early 900 vario or even a rebuilt 395 for the loader!

What’s the 2018 one worth now compared to what it was new? I’ve found the cost to change these things hasn’t actually changed much, but it’s all bigger numbers.

If my memory is still working I think that MF had a programme called ROC in the 70's which was a rebuild operation similar to your comments above re CAT.

The numbers would never stack up and only a minority of people would entertain buying one

It can be done, buy an older tractor and get the engine rebuilt and sort any other wear issues, send it to some1 thats tidy at respraying and get it refurbed and if the vario goes bang buy a new 1 or send it to swinnerton tractors to be fixed. Theres a fendt dealer in scotland that grassmen interviewed that goes through used tractors and warranties them cant remember thier name now

As far as I can see the technology has levelled off now. Do we not just need a new reliable version of a 10 year old machine with a few updates? So is what your saying is people can afford new so no market for rebuilt..

That’s not the same as a certified rebuild where every single component is stripped and rebuilt to as new. Whack a new vario in And the the crown wheel and pinion collapse next week, that’s just repairing and waiting for the next Failure. A proper rebuild needs cleanliness and clearance setting values as good as the factory which normal workshops can rarely achieve, so it’s a job for someone with all the facilities and knowledge that does the same job again and again to get it 100 percent.

you couldn’t do it with anything older than that or no one will want it.
How much is a 10 year old tractor worth? Manufacturer has to buy it back at market value. Then how much to put it back to as new condition? There’s going to be a serious amount of hours costed at full workshop rate.
It’ll want a new vario. Most likely a new engine because even a fully rebuilt to the highest standard engine will be unwarrantable for any reasonable length of time.
i can easily see the cost to do it ending up more than the price of a new one
A rebuilt tractor is going to need to be priced competitively with as much warranty as a new one out there’s no point buying one.

Interesting.. I guess the technology was moving on so fast back then, not many people wanted the older designs rebuilt. Can’t blame them!
