You’ve just argued against your own point🤣🤣🤦‍♂️
I disagree, even the cat rebuild scheme machines wont be as good as new as metal fatigue sets in, if the rebuilt 1s were as good as new at big discounts why woukd any1 buy new as itd be madness. The fact remains new is as good as it gets

you couldn’t do it with anything older than that or no one will want it.
How much is a 10 year old tractor worth? Manufacturer has to buy it back at market value. Then how much to put it back to as new condition? There’s going to be a serious amount of hours costed at full workshop rate.
It’ll want a new vario. Most likely a new engine because even a fully rebuilt to the highest standard engine will be unwarrantable for any reasonable length of time.
i can easily see the cost to do it ending up more than the price of a new one
A rebuilt tractor is going to need to be priced competitively with as much warranty as a new one out there’s no point buying one.
But as the price of a new one rockets does that not leave more of a margin? S/H goes up a bit but nothing Like as much. A tired 936 can be had cheap enough (one sold here for 35k ish)but a new one is how much? Well over 200k? We should definitely be able to rebuild a modern engine in this country! Do Deutz not do a rebuild program for their newer stuff? The last air cooled Deutz I needed they sent me a rebuilt one for about 4K.

I’d like to see it costed property. How many many hours are we talking to rebuild a tractor too as new factory spec? Don’t forget we’re talking £50/.hr for a start.
I just don’t think it’s possible to do AND put a worthwhile warranty on it

There is some truth in that, but stress cracks on tractors are rare where as on plant they are common. The problem is dealers charging £70-100 an hour for repairing stuff, where as the factory will have one person doing a set task correctly with someone costing them maybe £25 an hour. A child Or an OAP could set the clearance of a 936 ring and pinion if they did the same thing over and over. Buts it’s very hard for someone who doesn’t do it on a regular basis.

But where do u draw the line as to what needs replaced and what doesnt? Are you just left with the cab frame and the castings with everything else replaced at which point counting the used tractors value is going to cost more

Often many main parts are good enough to go back in. And the manufacturer has the be part of the process offering new parts for viable money like cat do. Not just walk away prices..

That’s not the same as a certified rebuild where every single component is stripped and rebuilt to as new. Whack a new vario in And the the crown wheel and pinion collapse next week, that’s just repairing and waiting for the next Failure. A proper rebuild needs cleanliness and clearance setting values as good as the factory which normal workshops can rarely achieve, so it’s a job for someone with all the facilities and knowledge that does the same job again and again to get it 100 percent.
In theory this is correct,in practice it isn’t.Factory staff make mistakes the same as anyone else, that is what the warranty is for on new machines. On our own small farm I have seen many examples of this, oil rings installed upside down in an engine, baler pick up reel frame welded wrong, same with a roller mill, incorrect tubes put in tractor tyres and bolts not done up properly in a pto pack. All of this from the last 10 new machines here.By contrast I’ve had a tractor transmission rebuilt from scratch by a first class mechanic and it’s been faultless and it was the first one of its type that he had done.

I’m glad your gearbox repair is working ok. When I questioned a local mf mechanic Years ago as he threw manky gritty components back in a gearbox, he announced “no cleaning time allowed on these jobs.. cost too much!, that’s what filters are for!!” If it had been my machine I’d have taken the job off them. Even the best mechanics make me cringe with the grit getting introduced. I have to look the other way..

This is my point really, good and bad staff whether they work in a factory or dealership.I should add my job was done by an independent dealership,no affiliation to the manufacturer.

Be interesting to see how much of a jump in price others have seen when changing like for like models in the last few years. New Claas Arion 530 bought in 2018, exact same tractor bought in 2023. 26k/38% increase. Are other brands similar ?
Just under 2 years ago I had a price to change our loader tractor (2011 case JX95) for a new farmall c 95 with loader. Cost was £34k, but we weren't looking to change at the time. A couple of months back we were thinking of changing and the price to swap was now £49k. Jx is still here.
