Just had this bill for an 1800 hour service without engine breather being changed.

Some of these bills are ridiculous. John Deere 6R is costing less than £1.20/ clock hour. As far as I can see that’s less than half of what the New Holland servicing above is costing.

If you don't like it, do the job yourself. Apprentices have to learn somewhere, it may as well be on your pride and joy.

That's not how it works. You train the apprentices on the job. But the hours spent needs to be cut to the normal experienced techs time for completing the job. Otherwise you might as well do it yourself and the dealership will be nothing but a parts department.

You don't take your "pride and joy" in for a 19yr old to have a crack at fixing it at 125 per hour here.

It is how it works. If they're short staffed (everyone seems to be) and they've got plenty of work on (everyone seems to be busy), they'll send whoever they send and they'll charge what they charge.

Like I said, if you don't like it - do it yourself. If you can't or don't want to do it yourself, lube up and bend over.

Considering I've run a workshop that isn't how it works.

If you feel fine about getting ripped that's fine. Others don't.

You sound like a pretty awesome customer to have 😂.

So apprentices train on the job, just not on customers vehicles? I think a pig just flew past the window.

Apprentices sent out to jobs on their own always have their time cut down to the standard time and the company wears the rest? Another pig just flew past.

Just because you run/ran a workshop in a responsible manner and managed your apprentices properly, doesn't mean they all do. The "we don't need the customer, the customer needs us" attitude is quite common among dealership workshops, the result is often over charging and under delivery. If you seriously think this kind of stuff doesn't go on, you've got your head in the sand.

I don't really care, I've always done my own repairs/servicing and will continue to do so. I do feel sorry for people that can't/don't do their own work.
