Tractor tax class

Anybody got a tractor that now falls into the historic tax class?
I've a MF 135 that was originally classed as agricultural machine but about 3 years ago DVLA decided it MUST be reclassed as historic. OK, it was changed and I had no problems taxing it. This year when I tried to tax it,both online and by telephone, they refused as it has no MOT. Why would it need an MOT as it's a tractor and hasn't needed one before?? So I decided to try and get the class changed back to agri machine.
Emailed DVLA 3 weeks ago, they said send a V10 (application for vehicle tax),send the log book with the class changed, send a V112(declaration of exemption from MOT),insurance certificate and a photo of the vehicle which shows the no. plate.Done all that. All forms etc came back today, including a letter stating that as the vehicle was built before 1st Jan 1978,it must be in the Historic class. They also say that I need to send a V112 to declare it exempt from MOT and reapply for tax...........................Already sent that and they sent it back.
Never had this crap before and will try a Post Office on Monday but has anybody else came up against this nonsense ?

I have several historic tractors and have always taxed them online no problem.
The problem I was told is as they are no longer agricultural they must be on white diesel.

DVLA insist if they're built before 78 they must be in the historic class. In the letter they sent back to me they said if I was trying to change back to agricultural use tax class because of the red diesel usage issue, that I need to contact HMRC,who will provide a covering letter stating that as the vehicle is a tractor,it is entitled to use the red stuff and that if I happened to be stopped by the police or Vosa,to present them with said letter.....!!
Sent off another email this am asking why they believe the vehicle needs an MOT. It says Massey Ferguson tractor in the log book.Is that not enough evidence that it is indeed a tractor that has been taxed up to this year hassle free, never mind the fact that it cannot be MOT'd anyway as there is no provision to do so.?
We'll see what they say this time and see if the PO will tax it tomorrow.

AFAIK they are now. Been able to tax it since Swansea DVLA changed it to historic around 3 years ago and no mention of MOT. Our rules and taxation etc all go through Swansea now like the rest of the UK.

So, just for anyone else that has this problem. Actually got to speak to someone at DVLA. They said to go to the PO with the tax reminder and form V112 and it'll be taxed straight away. The online and telephone system doesn't recognise that a historic classed tractor doesn't need an MOT and they need a V112 every time ...... Until they update their system. Funny how it always worked before.....

Taxed again at PO.! Girl scanned the original V11 reminder, looked at the V112 and asked me if she was meant to take it or give it back to me!
"Sure you take it with you, the tractor is taxed, have a nice day", said she......
So much for online technology, I thought.:scratchhead::whistle:

Vintage tractor cover with NFU covers both use on the farm and ploughing matches, road runs and shows etc. so is in fact better than the standard business cover. The downside is only the tractor is covered. Any implement on the back has to be insured separately.

I was told different and I have NFU normal and historic tractor policies.
Historic for shows etc.only ,other than that normal tractor cover .

Just bringing this up again.....As said above,I've a 135 that the tax class was changed by the DVLA to historic vehicle, about 5 years ago and they insisted it has to be that.
Has anyone actually been able to get their tractor tax class changed from historic back to agricultural use? I've tried annually for a few years with no success but have recently discovered that a historic vehicle cannot be legally used on the road if it's for hire or reward or commercially in connection with a trade or business. DVLA form ''INF34'' states so. Now it's rarely used on the road but if an accident was to occur,I'd think the insurance and plod would be a problem.
