My 24 year old trailer is needing some attention, so the project beings, the pins in the rams came out no problem but the rear pivot pins were sold

Have done lots over the years , Not a bad job for winter in the workshop with heater on , are you going to sand blast it & paint it when you are finished

I always think by the time you’ve done a proper job on something like this it’s almost not worth it. I admire it but would a decent second hand trailer not be a worthy upgrade.

I ask this as we have a 1993 NC 8 tonner, chassis is sound but the body is goosed, not only that there’s no brakes at all now and a muck trailer without brakes or hydraulic door is a disaster waiting to happen.
Rather than spend thousands doing it up I’d rather upgrade to a 12 or 14 tonner with hyd door and also have to make less trips to the stubble in winter.

10 lb sledgehammer and a bit if heat and they never budged so just cut the pins and two brackets as they were needing replaced anyway, The box is just getting a scuff with a sander and wire wheel, but going to get my other tenant painter to soda blast the chassis and spray it next week hopefully.

It depends a lot on the trailers, we have done a few 10 & 12 ton trailers put hyd doors on them & new com axles air brakes the lot , it turned a 2.5K trailer in to a 10 k trailer, so it was a good thing to do.

Small scale farming now a days I only have 60 ewes to cart muck for and do about 6 trips to the quarry 3 miles away a year. so a new trailer is not justifiable to me just now. It all depends how much needs repairing and if you can do it yourself and have the time.

The lights hoses and tyre's were replaced 4 years ago and brake linings checked, on inspection this time I see the brake rams are looking a bit rusted so 4 of them is costing £70.00 I need to pay for the grit for blasting, trailer should be sorted for about £500 and my time

Good to see this, we've got a little 6t Richard western dumper that needs an overhaul, the chassis is good but the body is well past its best. I was trying to decide if its worth overhauling or changing for newer but no one seems to make little dump trailers like that any more - we use bigger trailers for grain but the dumper delivers a lot of hay and straw to livery yards you can't get in with anything bigger, its just a handy little trailer. the worst bit is finding a long enough gap when its not needed to overhaul it 😂

Did a bit more to the trailer this afternoon, the out riggers are rusted from the inside out should of had a 20mm hole drilled when it was made to let it breathe,

you may see in some of the pics black steel I use phosphoric acid it kills the rust and makes it easy to weld old
Steel, just waiting now for my welding rods to come murex zodian universal b

the ram pins are sold so pillar drill and drill them out is the next job😢

I changed an olive green trailer to post box red and it is surprising how much more room the traffic gives you on the road.:) It does seem to take a long time to fully set, but will look very smart when complete.
