Transit minibus-camper conversion.

Mrs Fred's work have offered the staff first offer on their old minibus which is being replaced and she wondered if we ought to look at it as a potential camping van for shows, etc. I wondered what the general opinion was on 2007 diesel Transits. The manager says it needs welding on a sill, as well as a prop shaft donut and the wishbone rubbers on one side. Because of their work with the children, it has to be serviced by a Ford main dealer which has made it worth their while to buy a new one, but this one is not very expensive as it stands with a month's MOT.
I see there are plenty of conversion videos on youtube and it might be a project as we wind down on the farm. Any thoughts gratefully received!
Thanks

2007 transits are reasonably mechanically reliable, being serviced by a main dealer and being a minibus probably means that it had what ever its needed over the years.

They are however prone to rust, some can be very rusty by that age - look over it carefully. Personally I shy away from any rusty vehicle, once the rot sets in its a never ending game of cat and mouse.

More and more cities are bringing in low emissions zones so your van will have to pay to enter most cities within the next 18 months as it is not Euro 6. This will devalue it drastically and not really worth spending huge sums on a conversion.

It sounds like a genuine vehicle, if it has full dealer history, wash it, take some good photographs and put it on an ebay auction you will be surprised how much it will fetch, start the auction at £1000.

They’re the most popular van for a reason. How many miles?

Currently converting the back of ours for day van for the kiddy winks, like to convert to full camper when they’re a bit bigger.
