As @Vincent said Finning do analysis. Had guys here running all Cat machines and Finning does all the service work, every time they do an oil change they take a sample and send it away to get analysed to try and predict future problems.

Note that Morris Oils offer a service.. Oil analysis is only worth doing if you have a failure or as a routine between services. Otherwise it just tells you that you have dirty oil with lots of contaminants, which we know all used oil has anyway. What you need is a pattern of contaminant saturation and the ability to spot something unusual happening that is outside of the normal pattern.
There may be other reasons of course, but those and testing for viscous/shear stability are the common ones. You can normally tell when an oil‘s viscosity and film strength compromised because the engine will suddenly start consuming it rather quickly. Change it immediately this starts happening and normal/zero consumption will resume.
