Getting the feel that this years straw crop won’t be the biggest. All the big arable boys around me have chopped it this time and contractors have commented on being thousands of bales down. Can others comment on their own areas?

Wtf South west is well up on straw yields I would say . Neighbor had same amount of wheat straw as last year with 18 acres less.!

The chap who buys my straw is now having buyers back out. Both wheat and barley straw. Luckily he has sheds of his own that he can fill.

Don’t doubt lots of straw with higher yields but seen a lot chopped instead of baled

Worcestershire/Gloucestershire. We have baled approx 600T ourselves I’m just keen to get a general feel for how much it might be worth this time.

Still paying the price for last years NFU crazy bale every bale campaign.
All depends on the winter, as to what happens.
Maybe it's like the grain job, bumper barn busting yields everywhere...... yet try and find someone who actually has bumper yields...

We have more than ever in the sheds an a stack outside plus alot sold though harvest, everything was bailed an very very little got wet an had to be dealt with but mybe just got it lucky in Oxfordshire

Market well down presently but I’ve seen loads chopped especially over the last 3 weeks. It’ll be the new year if there is to be a price rise but I doubt it as there’s stock left from last year in many places.

Straw coming out of our ears in North Shropshire. Plenty of outdoor stacks as people have run out of storage room, ourselves included. Second year of 2ton/acre plus straw yields, plenty of last year's still about. Plenty of straw chopped in the area. Straw merchant can buy wheat straw out of the shed other side of Brum for £30/ton and still can't find a home for it. By the way it anyone wants some straw . . . .

I’ve never seen so much straw baled as this year - East Yorkshire.

carry over from last year was negligible here,demand from our regular behind combine men up slightly as they also had no carry over .Most crops have had more straw so we have chopped on the fields that could do with some organic matter and destined for digestate still less than 10%. Cant remember the last time we chopped must be at least 3 or 4 combines ago as two of them didnt have choppers and 1 didnt work due to a reversing manouver. A lot of acres chopped round and about in the rush to get osr sown etc. The market after xmas will depend on the weather as last year there wasnt a bad weather market just a demand led one in a lower yield .,Interestingly had a guy on the phone last night looking for a few as his regular supplier has chopped and not got any spare, not a vast amount but still a sale . A couple we helped out last year have come back for more at less money/t though similar/acre. my feeling is there isnt as much free straw kicking about as folks think to cover any bad weather demand later , a lot havnt bought as they think the price will stay low, im not so sure esp for inside stored dry stuff
