Unannounced FA visits

Had a letter today from a firm warning that this was being brought in and offering a Pre-Inspection Health Check to make sure you will be compliant should you be inspected.
They are offering one health check per year and will attend the Farm Assurance Audit.
The fee is £65 per month plus VAT for the full service but can be tailored to suit your needs.
This is how I read it, maybe I'm missing something as that's one hell of a charge.

I don't worry so much about it now. Try your best and if there is a non conformance you get 28 days to fix it. I certainly wouldn't be paying £780 a year.

If the FA Audit is unannounced, how will the money grabbing (sorry, fee charging ) firm know when to turn up ? If they only come in once a year, what's the betting that FA turn up 11 months after?

£780 a year? On top of the quite ridiculous fee for the assurance in the first place? Someone has been sniffing the good stuff.

The inspectors want to help you pass and will point out major issues for you to fix within 28 days.

If you're concerned, just get the standard out and go through it point by point. Write a list of where you don't comply and get it sorted out. That's what I did when I went FA at first. As above, the inspectors IME have been very reasonable and you've got 28 days if there is a problem. Most of the stuff is legal requirement anyway.

They quite often send a check list of what is needed on inspection day. Farm like every day is farm assurance day.

Lots of us believe Farm Assurance itself has turned into a scam so technically is this is a scam of a scam?

I’ve told the assurance people that for health and safety reasons they are not allowed on the farm unannounced.
We don’t allow anyone here without prior permission, and they are no different.

You could quite easily justify that on biosecurity grounds if you have livestock as well.

And surely part of farm assurance rules is that all farm visitors are accounted for. How is that possible if they turn up unannounced and snoop around?

Why would they turn up unannounced? Their own risk assessment would prevent them going any further than the front gate as there would be a danger of death from animals or machines being moved.

They would do more good to be helping the police chasing these bass terds going around stealing / inhumanly slaughtering sheep, putting unwarranted meat into the food chain.

As i understand it, unannounced inspections are only going to take place on farms with a lot of or serious non conformances, as a follow up visit, not for the standard inspection.
Even then I don’t think they’re going to be totally unannounced, I believe there will be a phone call immediately prior to an unannounced inspection, after all, most of us aren’t around the yard at all times and I don’t think they’re allowed to go snooping around on their own.

It sounds like this company are praying on farmers dislike/fears of farrm assurance.
