Unusual birth

Going to confess, I very rarely go on the livestock section, apart from the hay straw tracker. Not a livestock guy so don’t know to much about it, but a large cattle farmer told me today something he had never heard or seen before.
He had a calf born inside out! I don’t know much more details, I’m guessing this is a very rare thing to happen?!

We had a funny on our last year in dairy, had a heifer in trouble calving, vet found the calf had no skeleton. It was just like an empty skin, and as she strained it expanded so couldn’t calve it. Had to cut it up inside her, it knocked her about a bit but came ok in the end.

And feels weird as fudge when you’re reaching inside trying to figure out which bit needs attached to the chain.

I remember once on a calving course the instructor said never attach ropes or chains to 2 feet just because they are there, always follow back to the body in case you have feet from 2 different calves.
I wonder what he would have made of this one!

I’ve not had an inside out calf but had a lamb like that a few years ago, I did my bit for vet science and took it to the vets just for their interest.
I had a lamb like that about thirty years ago, took the ewe to vet to have a cesar, he said they got one every couple of years.
Very wierd to see it still alive but inside out.

Yeah, we had one a few years ago - ewe couldn't get it away and I had to put my hand in. Very strange o_O When all the guts started coming I half wondered if they were hers :woot:

Had one of these too........

...........couldn't get it out - had to have a C/S. It had one live sibling and one dead one.

We had one three years ago, seem a routine "not getting on with the job" so put my hand in and seemed like I was grasping at a jumble, got vet out and he straight away said Schistomonas reflex. He performed a c section and thankfully we got it out. The calf was best described as a corn sack made of flesh with 2 legs sticking out the top. It wad the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

"linda" the dam had a week fighting infection but we nursed her through and she's still with us. Both calving's since have been natural an unassisted.
