Morning

I’m sure it’s been asked a thousand times !

Historically been AN user but for obvious reasons we’ve bought a quantity of Urea this season.

When do users of Urea on here generally start applying to Barleys and Rapes in comparison to AN dates.

I’ve been thinking 2 weeks earlier ? Am I in the ball park?

cheers

Yep, about a fortnight before AN. I tend to go about mid Feb with my first dose. Almost tempted to start soon as conditions are good. But generally ‘Ice Road Truck’ it onto frozen tramlines in Feb.
Then the main dose all on by 7th April.
Gate then shut, spreader washed off, greased and put away until the next February.

No idea at all why anybody uses AN.

Unless we are going to get a lot if rain, I'm starting to think it ought to be on now, snowdrops are in flower and daffs running to bud. Carpet slippers weather here.

This would normally be wet up to your breeches, is it too soon to start calling the driest summer since '76 yet?

I've thought about chucking a bit of urea on Winter Barley every morning this week. It will do no harm on and might not travel for a month after.
Every morning though, it's just been slightly too gusty to pluck up the courage.

As soon as it is dry enough to travel sensibly
Then all on by end of March
In the 1980s last week of jan for AN on a frost
Now with warmers winters the soil has more available from its reserves growth will not start till it is warm enough any way
So no point in making a mess the later the first dose the higher the rate

Will be putting some on on Monday. Second driest month on paper. March is the first. Dry fortnight. Warm. Stats show first fert when daffs are out, but that's for AN so get the urea on in the dry east - isn't that why you got inhibited urea anyway?
No inhibited here just the cheapest stuff I could find !

think I’m going to have a go Monday on rape and barley !!

Do you ever damage plants applying it when there frozen solid? Ie snapping leaves off as brittle.

Remember putting lime on frozen grass and where wheel marks were killed it.

Back into it this year but when we used to only use urea we’d start on wheat mid Feb. This year it’ll probably be the last week in Feb 120kg in one hit.
