US Corn Planting Gets Underway

In the first official USDA Crop Progress report, 4% of Winter Wheat is now headed, marginally ahead of average. 25% of wheat in Texas is headed and 3% of spring wheat has been planted, with 11% planted in South Dakota, well ahead of the 4% on average. Soil moisture remains a concern for many states.

Overall in the US, 53% of winter wheat is in good and excellent condition, having improved over recent weeks. Winter Wheat in Texas remains a concern, at just 30% rated good and excellent.

Corn

In the first official USDA Crop Progress report, 2% of US corn had been planted by the week ending 4 April. The expection being Texas, where 55% of corn has been planted, marginally ahead of average. The 2020/21 Brazilian safrinha corn is now 100% planted.

Oilseeds

The soybean harvest in Brazil reached 78% complete as of late last week compared to 83% last year and 78% average according to AgRural.
