I just found out about an on-line liquidation auction of a little engineering firm a couple of miles away from me this morning, (usual story, plug pulled on a big job, taking the little people with them).
I was rather surprised they hadn't advertised it more, or at all, locally. After all, the money raised is presumably to pay off debtors (once everyone along the way has had their cut). I can understand the firm going bust not bothering, after all they don't see the money, it lets everyone know they've gone under, and presumably they've got no money to advertise anyway. But surely the agent handling the auction should make a bit of effort?
Then, with about three hours notice to get registered, the hoops to jump through to get approval to bid were ridiculous! Copies of passports, company headed paper, utility bill, etc. It's almost as if they didn't want me to bid!
Anyway, I got done in the end, and got the bits I needed, or at least the ones that went for reasonable money. But it just annoyed me that someone should be making an effort to get as much back as possible for those owed money, and they weren't.
