Test drive a direct

It's a 4 speed full declutch between speed change gearbox, mated to an epicyclic driven pump and motor that swap roles at half max speed in each range. You have 0 to 6, 0 to 9, 0 to 16, and 0 to 30mph in ranges A to D.

If you can get your head around how it works, any other gearbox is horribly clunky, imprecise, awkward, and just downright old fashioned by comparison.

But each to their own, it's boils down to what you're used to, and what you expect.

But FFS, don't take the dealers word for it, test drive the bloody thing and think for yourself!!!!

Looking for drivers and owner opinions of valtra t234 direct, good, bag and ugly?
I have a 254 versu here and it is so good and easy to change gears I’m not interested in the direct, I’ve 1400 hrs on it now without any problems. Lovely tractor to work with , and very easy to get use to.

We’ve got one, I quite like it. Use it on stone separator, drill, bit of ploughing and general duties. Bout 2000hrs, been fine, few electrical gremlins, but been sorted out quickly.

I like it, the smart touch system is excellent in my opinion, along with the auto steer. Very easy to use

the transmission can be a bit indecisive when in heavy draft work, but I only drive it occasionally and it’s maybe me not having it set right.

done around 2000hrs

Wet clutches to make the gearshift I take it? not synchro shift.. I think a few mechanical upshifts in ratio like the case cvx gets the power through better. Our vario box in the fastrac is too power hungry, my pals cvx just eats it on hills..

Bought a two year old N134 direct, still with 2 years warranty left, and put on a quicke q5m loader.

New model Deutz would have been lovely, but the new prices of every machinery brand are now totally beyond the reach of a hill livestock farmer.

Put 800 hours on it since October. Looking forward to the next 8000.

Last year one of the local farms bought a lovely Valtra T174 Direct and put it to work alongside their JD fleet. 1500 hours down the line and they have just traded it in for a new 6155R as they couldn't get on with the Valtra !! Too many electrical issues apparently. I suspect its biggest failing was its lack of Green and Yellow paintwork;). Although its interesting to note that the farmyard literally next door have just added a third Valtra T234 to their fleet and ousted their last JD in the process . Well we all have biases don't we.
