Vinyl wrap / paint work protection

Morning all,

Is anyone here using clear plastic paintwork protection (like used for race car stone chip protection) or vinyl wrapping etc. to preserve paintwork on new tractors and machinery? Has anyone found anything effective to protect black plastic mudguards from UV fade?

What prices are being quoted? Will the cost pay back in stronger residuals in 3 to 5 years?

Are there any companies that I should approach or avoid?

Thanks in advance!

Best thing to prevent paint fade is not to wash it every week.

don’t be daft - never wash it ! let it get really shitty snd scratched, service it yourself when you can be bothered ( just tell everyone you did it better than the dealers, they will believe you ! ) and attract operators who really don’t care

apparently it will be worth every bit as much secondhand !

the only thing washed weekly is the handler, every Friday when the cattle are indoors. Everything else is 'occasional '!

but seriously - I've used wraps and ppf on race and road cars - its good stuff if applied well

never used it on farm machinery though but cant see why it would not be a good idea and protect your investment

my question was more about protective products, the handler in particular here starts looking dull with repeated washing, the lad who does it ( his machine ) is obsessed with polishing etc but I think its too much, although still better than being clagged up with cattle sh1t and woodchip. The tractors probably get washed monthly with windows cleaned daily when its dry.

Locally, Gwili Jones tractors did a comemerative T7 .200 In silver with logos, turned up a few weeks ago at McClean in Dorset, lots of peeling on the wrap. Still on their website

I’ve thought about wrapping a hgv cab, purely because the last owner did a crap job of pulling stickers off it.

I watched a video on YouTube, so I’m an expert now.🤪

You don't half type some shite!
How the hell can washing the life out something stop it getting scratched? In fact the more its washed the more abrasion the paint work will get!
Why if you don't wash something does it mean you don't care about a machine.

Same as if something is all shiny doesn't mean it's been serviced at all.
Other halves cousin is in a car body shop. He gets some real knocked about cars in, doesn't take long to make them all tidy.

You carry on being a knob polisher while the rest of us get more practical.

and you carry on being a scruffy farmer who “thinks” his machinery is worth as much as mine !

I'm doing ok thanks ! as you like to point out re my “flash cars, holidays, shooting, over paid staff “ etc. i’m not addicted to my BPS dole check either ......... join the dots ?

just maybe i do know what im talking about ? Just maybe you should open your mind a little ?

if i posted i was giving a million £ to charity tomorrow you would still reply telling me I was wrong ! ....... just what is it with your clear, ugly vendetta against me ?

Never have I pointed out you had flash cars, holidays, shooting, over paid staff.

But you have called me a scruffy farmer. Nice classy personal attack Clive!

Maybe you have me confused with someone else.

I was pointing out that a clean tractor means diddle squat. Doesn't mean it's not serviced or looked after just means it's being used. Think the saying is for something that isn't what it is "all fur coat no knickers"

As I said keep washing and polishing your knobs, in your vehicles or is it buttons.

I’ve worked with lads that washed their tractors every opportunity, late to jobs as they had to wash it in the mornings before going out everyday, I washed mine when doing a 1,000 hour service only to see where things were like drain plugs etc. I had zero electrically problems yet the lads washing continuously had major electrical problems and blocked radiators all the time from turning dust to mud while washing it into the machine.
