VW Tiguan a replacement for a Disco Sport?

Having owned a Discovery Sport for the last 3 years or so I am getting fed up with having to deal with JLR dealers and the corporate rubbish they talk to their customers. The car itself hasn't been too bad reliability wise but I dread having to book it in at either of our localish JLR dealers who try to con you into new brakes tyres and DEF(add blue) to any normal person.
I have decided I want to get back down to earth and buy a car without all this crap attached. One possibilty is a new VW Tiguan either 150 or 190 horse diesel but haven't driven one yet. They are cheaper than the Discovery and appeal to me as german engineering has always been good and VW have a good reputation and resale value. They should also be cheaper to run and more economical. Any experiences?

I'm afraid to tell you, but most dealers of all brands will try and raise the invoice values by trying to sell unwanted and unnecessary crap. By far the worse in my personal experience has been Audi dealers. Dealer service receptionists/specialists are especially trained to try and increase the service department's profitability at your expense at every opportunity.

The Tiguan is a lovely car if you get the right spec for you. Its digital dash and infotainment and general equipment can be top notch. Not so sure about the DSG seven speed automatic, although it is smooth enough. I much prefer the nine speed automatic fitted by Land Rover.

The Land Rover is also British built, which carries a lot of weight with me, even though I do not like LR as a company to deal with. Nothing wrong with their product though, especially the new version of the D Sport which has a redesigned DPF system and the new touch-pro infotainment system available. A HSE with 180 hp diesel/hybrid with the nine speed automatic would be my choice on merit, never mind it being built in the UK at Liverpool with a state of the art engine range built near Telford.

There is some difference in price between VW and LR and the VW dealers don't seem to be so far up themselves.

All the Volvos we meet in the lanes around here don't have reverse gear, is that an extra or are they all driven by dixs?
Yawn! Next you'll be saying they don't have indicators either.

Those well worn cliches has been used for BMW, Audi, Jaguar, Mercedes, Range Rover and Volvo over the years. It just isn't funny or convincing any longer.

The Discovery is a bigger vehicle than even the long wheelbase Tiguan which itself is the same size as the Skoda Kodiak. It also has seven seats in most guises.

Whether any particular dealer is 'up itself' is down to the individuals working there and varies from dealer to dealer.

Nothing wrong with the Tiguan. I quite like it. If it tickles your fancy, you probably won't go far wrong.

Is this not a bit of a cliche?
It's how my car was sold to me. Really! I didn't really aim for an XC90 but as the then LR dealer tried to persuade me out of a Disco5 [all they had to do was shake my hand], I looked at the V90Cross Country but the roof or door top height was just too low for me. I told her that I couldn't justify the XC90, nice as it was/is. "You only live once" was the predictable answer, to which I replied "Yes but I want to be able to pay for my funeral". In an instant she suggested that I could save on the undertaker's cost by using it to carry my coffin.
