Wake up call to the Government

Well this latest crisis should be a wake up call to the British Government.
They have forgotten the lessons of WW2 and the need to be self sufficient in food production.
The population has increased and farm land that produces food to feed the nation has been concreted over to provide housing for the ever increasing population explosion.
The government needs to halt the decline in farming and help those who still help to feed the nation.
The current shortages highlight our dependence on imported food products.

Within 12 months of the Coronavirus outbreak being over everything will be back to normal/as they were before, anything else is just wishful thinking regardless of anything our leaders might say in the coming days/weeks.

Yep why is there a shortage of protective masks ? Because the vast majority are made in China
Every country is in need of masks so manufacturers cannot meet worldwide demand. (that is what happens when you let you manufacturing industry go to the wall).
Food production is as you say the corner stone of a countries security, it is why there were food blockades during time of conflict.

Panic buying is only one factor.
Where does Pasta come from? Mainly Italy which is on total lock down
A lot of produce comes from Spain again total lockdown and so it goes on.
Rice from China etc
Panic buying cleared the shelves getting enough stock to continually replenish is another matter.

Does this mean we have to eat cabbage and lamb all year?
What happens if we are 100% self sufficient and something drastic happens that means we can’t provide for ourselves?
Most people arguing this really havnt thought it through.
being 100% self sufficient is a more dangerous policy than importing a percentage of our food and nutrition.

In the meantime he's calling for the pubs to be opened back up again as the supermarkets are busier FFS

The guy is beyond belief

Although I would never set foot in a Wetherspoons, he has a point. I am calling in at our local for a pint far more than before, you can all take your chances in Tesco I know where my loyalties lie and I know where I am safer. Not left the parish for 3 weeks, everything I need is here, it will all be gone bust the way the country is behaving at present.
