Want to do my Category H test

My name is Rod and live in Norwich. I have been trying to sort my Category H licence for a while but no joy. I have been quoted silly money to do it with a training provider but costs more then my hgv and pcv licences lol. I have written to dealerships and manufactures but are not interested in helping. I just need a vehicle which is legal and place to do the test and some practice. I would cover the costs of the test and any fuel and time using the vehicle. I am prepared to travel but within reason of course.

I’d offer to work on a farm for day 40 hours FOC if they let you use their machine. That should cover insurance and costs to them.
however it’s similar to asking to borrow a digger to do your ticket! If you have to pay you will easily get money back if you are prepared to work the hours on farm all summer driving one. Look at it like a mechanic and Investing in your future. You don’t get anything for nothing I’m this life

I agree with what you say I have payed my way for most of my training. I can't justify the cost though as I won't be using it that often you see. I spoke with a trainer who use to teach it and done it for a fraction of what these schools wanted and said they are a rip off. If it costs you anymore then 200 pound don't bother. I have tried farmers or who ever has got some sort of tracked vehicle but just hitting my head against a brick wall. So I would try a forum to see anyone is willing.

Trouble is unless you are going to work a full season. Why should someone loan you a 150k machine for you to do your test? Sorry to sound harsh but farming is a business
You also won’t be insured unless you work for them.

Why do you want to do it? I didn’t have mine until I started driving one for someone and then they just put me through the test, it was less than an hour and I didn’t even have to go on a public road!
Help a friend out basically and that's the short version lol. I have heard the test is not the hardest and not a novice on the road but never take things lightly.

Sounds like mine. I did it on a jd8410t with no suspension. By the time we got over the speed bumps down the farm drive the instructor said that was enough turn around and head back to the yard, reversed around th corner of the building and that was it

Does your friend have a crawler then?
Answer to that yes but always working or breaking down and asked me when I volunteered to help if I could sort my end and that was some time ago and as a friend said yes because he was struggling and I wanted to help in a small way.

Same but on a challenger
Same as me, I didn’t even have to leave the yard! The instructor asked us how to check the oil. A tech on the same test as me, went to his van, got out his can box and laptop and said we use this. The lady said “ok” she didn’t have a clue bless her! We let her drive it round the yard after we had all passed and she ran over the cones we had put out...

Unless your mate is the owner of said track machine. Walk away! You won’t be insured to “help you mate out” when he is busy unless you are officially a part of the team . If he wants you to volunteer then he can volunteer to pay for your test. Like I said in my first post. Farms are businesses despite how some run them

Farm twin track crawler if possible thank you.

when i did mine i had no training, just booked the test

was the easiest test i’ve ever done - end of farm drive and back as tester said he couldn’t sit in due to lack of uninsured passenger seat and didn’t want to cause inconvenience to other road users with a large machine !

i had never driven the tractor before 875 challenger and the decelerator was interesting

If its to help your friend out just use his machine. (if its not his machine or insurance starts to look a bit sketchy then just dump the whole idea) It can't always be working or breaking down. The chances of a farmer lending someone they dont know a massively expensive piece of machinery is just about zero unless you were going to take up employment for them.
