Farming Online & The University of Liverpool are looking to source some fields from willing farmers that are prone to waterlogging - to train a satellite model. This is part of a major Liver Fluke Early Detection project we are undertaking (Updating the Ollerenshaw Risk Model)
The aim is to help to decrease the chances of infection which costs the industry circa 300 million pa due to poor livestock performance, sheep mortality, costs of treatment and improve productivity.Farmers need accurate information to manage livestock to minimise risk of exposure.
As part of the project we are investigating methods of snail habitat sourcing by using satellite and for this we need access to any grassland fields that are prone to waterlogging.
All we need is a picture of the field and the latitude and longitude of the waterlog prone field’s location using i-phone or google maps.
We won’t publish the data, it’s purely to train a model to make sure it functions correctly.
Please send to [email protected] and thankyou in advance.
Using google maps on your phone:
Press on the location of the field and a pin will drop
Tap drop pin
Tap share icon
Tap message and email it to [email protected]
Send – that will send us the co-ordinates.
