Was I swindled? Or was it my own fault?

Hi folks. We rang a big dealership about a used 1600 hour combine. I didn't have time to view it at the time. But the salesman told me if I didn't buy it then over the phone it was going to be sold to someone that was there in the yard. He had described it in detail with the help of a mechanic for about 30 minutes. All it wanted was a few new fingers they said. Grand. OK. We gave him deposit immediately. Transferred the rest of the money the next day.
Combine arrived.
Well. What can I say? The fingers were probably the best part of it!
Starting at the front. Reel couldn't spin because head was damaged. The belts were tied in position with baler twine. Reel speed adjuster seized. Drum and concave completely smooth. No lights working. Belts, chains, neck chain, elevator chains, sprockets all worn out. Air con not working. Sieves seized. Holes worn in the grain pan.
It would gobble up 10 grand to get it right.
The salesman has passed me over to the boss. He answered my call at first now he won't take my calls, answer a text or email.
They won't trade combine back in. Or give me a refund. Or finally I asked them for £2,000 as a goodwill gesture. They won't do that.
I threatened to name and shame. He still won't answer me.
Any advice please???
Thanks.

Yes, first job is call your attorney and sue the sh!t out of this company. Do not waste your time calling them, they are not strait shooters and will not respond. Not sure of the law but this is not acceptable in business today.

Others will say you should have inspected it either yourself or engaged an expert inspection but just like here the distance makes it impractical sometimes.
Question, did you have a gallery of photographs to view or was it a cold deal..?

Dealer definitely out of order IMO but seriously, assuming your in the UK, nowhere is more than a few hours drive away. I wouldn't even contemplate spending combine levels of money without looking at the machine very thoroughly myself. If you didn't have the time to view it fair enough but I don't think you should then have gone and bought it! Guess as you have paid then lawyer might be a good place to start. Take pictures and document everything, make sure you have copies of emails, dates of phone calls etc.
