Cows used to drop enough and fish got pretty big after a few years. Increased Cow numbers also drank troughs dry too often and didn’t do the fish much good.

Tis a big concrete trough we have installed in the cow lane but it’s too deep for them to drink much more than 6” down

I find that concrete seems to grow algae much quicker than plastic or steel hence the fishies

Don't use minerals in the water if you have fish. The minerals kill the fish instantly and was a sad day when we realised what had happened as our trough fish had been here years and grown huge with all the food and warm water.

We had the same. Some more of mine received an accidental squirt of pour on ivomec, it would only have been a few ml in a 500g trough but they were dead almost instantly.

I understand you can be busted by farm assurance for having cat food containing fishmeal in the calf pens yet here we have fish food in a cow trough and if it was our cat no prizes for guessing where he would be sat most of his time trying to catch the beggars. :ROFLMAO:
