Water usage

I’m sure there is a old thread but can’t find it on here with the crappy search facility, just Unfortunately had a year of everything going through a mains meter and averaged 26.5m3/day on 165 milkers, 160 young stock selling 1.6 million litres + 6 houses, how does that compare to anyone else with accurate usage readings?

have drilled 8 bore holes and everyone ran dry hence the mains issue at the moment.

Cant help with the water disussion but regarding the search function, when you click on search, don't use the standard function, click 'advanced search' then scroll down and use the Google custom search box to type in what your looking for.

£1.38/m3 but has only been recent that old decrepit water system spring fed gave up the ghost and other than the holding tank need to start fresh including a source with higher flow as always used to be short on 1 million litres/year production. Local 1000 cow man has 5 boreholes and that isn’t enough, north herefordshire seems to have strange geology water wise.

That sounds about right. Before we got the borehole the meter was about 18 cu m a day for 130 cows 2 houses & the milk bottling plant
Pity you can not get a decent bore hole. Reckon ours covered it`s cost within 18 months.
How deep were you drilling. Most holes round here are about 70m deep with water level 20 - 30m down Guess it`s all to do with your local geology

According to our bills we use about 1200m2/quarter which is metered. We do have a (rubbish) borehole which isn’t metered but that only serves calf feeder, water for about 120 youngstock and our garden hose so even if you add the same on again (which would be generous) that works out about 26m2/day. That’s 650 milkers sending 6.5 million litres, 650 youngstock and one house. Judging by some of your figures I’m beginning to wonder if our meter is working! Possibly won’t be mentioning it to Yorkshire Water though!

Well your selling 6.5 million litres of milk but only paying for 4.8 millions litres of water !

It’s to be hoped Yorkshire Water don’t have a mole on this forum then isn’t it?! ;) In fairness it’s always seemed low to us too but the mains supply was a new connection just over 5 years ago and they’ve even been and checked the meter is working in that time so it’s not like we’ve not tried! Must be what we get for being good lads:LOL:
