Watery mouth prevention

Just been looking on this old thread about watery mouth. We seem to be getting it worse than ever and I think our hygiene is very good sheep littered every day in loads of clean straw so you have a job to walk. They were mucked out on the day we were due, the pens are cleaned and swept let dry and drysan put down. Sheep are in good condition fed tmr and giving loads of milk but still we are having it not massive yet but still annoying. Would love to know who is managing without spectam as we are struggling with it
For a quick fix this year change to Orojet.

Since lambing more outside never a problem but do use Spectam for triplets or problems lambed inside. Above poster seems to be doing more than we would so I wonder if you are getting a build-up of E coli on the teats so your new lamb gets a mouthful with the first mouthful of milk. Different E coli produces nastier toxins than others. You may have something like 0157 strain which is the one which can kill children. Might be worth getting some disinfectant baby wipes and clean each bag as they lamb if you are in the shed most of the time.

You may have a point regarding type of e.coli my wife had a particularly nasty strain one year so virulent that a 6 hour old lamb died with it (confirmed by post mortem) tubed every lamb at birth and used oxytet instead of amoxicillin and continued to spectam as well thank god she only has 20 ewes and it never spread to the 500 cross ewes
