Farmers and crofters across the UK are invited to join a webinar on “Financing Future Farming” next month.

Chaired by NFU Scotland’s Next Generation chair, Pete Moss from Orkney, the event is a unique collaboration involving Next Generation groups at NFU, NFU Cymru and Ulster Farmers’ Union.

Open to all, it will take place on Wednesday, November 25.

The line-up of speakers includes farmer and podcaster Will Evans; Harriet Wilson, Agriculture and Sustainable Sourcing Manager at McDonald’s UK and Ireland; and Roddy McLean, Head of Agriculture at NatWest.

The ‘Financing Future Farming’ webinar will focus on the green economic recovery from Covid-19 and how this can be achieved through climate-friendly agricultural practices.

It will explore how accessing green finance can support the next generation to improve their business efficiency and productivity within the context of the green recovery, linking to what buyers are then looking for when sourcing products.

NFU Scotland Next Generation Chair Pete Moss said:

It is great to see the next generation of agricultural businesses thinking about how they can address both the climate and biodiversity crises.

“These issues will be the biggest influencers on how we farm in the future, as we respond to the challenge of reducing greenhouse emissions across the country and halting biodiversity loss.

“The public want high-quality food, but they also want it to be produced in an environmentally friendly manner that benefits our soils, water and wildlife. Delivering on this presents huge opportunities for the sector.

“To do this we need investment sourced from both public and private funding. This webinar will explore how accessing green finance can support farms and crofts in improving business efficiency and productivity within the context of the Green Economic Recovery from Covid-19,” he concluded.
