Straight tap root, so not a turnip, or weed beet, not in the OSR rows either. It’s a bit like a sow thistle, spikey leaf but no “milk” when you snap the leaf.

I am with the cabbage family weeds - does it smell cabbagy if foliage crushed?

Could be a sowthistle if sap is milky, I suppose.

Thank you for the replies. I think these photos are of the same but more mature plants. Stems are covered in bristles and the broken stem exudes a milky sap.
