Never thought of making one, but of course it’s doable, and if everything is available it’s a good idea, as We could do with one and I like a challenge, so will watch this with interest.

The main deck is just a glorified artic trailer deck. Stick 4 weighcells under it and your sorted. Can't see where they get the money myself.
I've wondered if the weighcells off a bulker could be used to make a weighbrige. Not sure how much they weigh up to, about 30ton anyway I guess.

i also can't see why they are so expensive where do you find a second hand one? they don't seem to come up for sale much and weighbridge suppliers want silly money for them.only want it for my own use and interest to see whats coming in and going out.
just pondering the idea with dark nights coming so more time in the workshop!!

Transport of 2nd hand weighbridge be biggest cost I would think as they designed to carry a standard artic, so would be an oversize load

I don t need a full size one( come to think about it I don't need one at all)
Something long enough to weigh a tractor and 14ton trailer in a hit would do. Big than that you could do trailer and tractor separate.
Any links to the weigh cell equipment?

Be as well off guessing as using the one of those we tried, got the right weight for every load but only by weighing each load about 10 times without checking them against the weighbridge you'd never know which weight was the right one. That was tractor and 11t trailer loaded with barley could be up to 1600kg either way of the right weight

Local scrap man bought a used one several years ago and I did the repairs to it. By the time we'd finished we both reckoned we would have been better off using it as a pattern to make a new one and weighing in the used one. Not that complicated to make, especially if you've got one handy to copy.

I actually know where there is one that’s still in place and not been used in at least 15-20 years, wasn’t that old when the lorry firm packed up. The deck still looks in decent order, but what the cells under it will be like I don’t know !. It’s an all above ground one with ramps either end, should imagine the terminal has long since been gone as the little building has no glass or door on it now for along time.

How much do you reckon you could fab the basic steelwork / platform for?

The other chunky cost would be groundwork and concrete foundations if you were going to make it semi permanent

There’s a choice suppliers of weigh cells and kits, so don’t think it would be a problem to get all the electronics sorted for under £2k
