I welded up one years back, my welding wouldn’t be the best; but as the board was still good; I thought I’d test my welding; it held for as long as we had it.

Don't overthink this, just weld it.
This!!!!
I have Mig'd them, Tig'd them with steel/stainless filler rods and all been fine. All my match plough stuff I use stainless steel filler rod and TIG if I need to weld for whatever reason.
A very talented old school spaceframe chassis builder (French) told me all their steel chassis were welded using stainless filler wire and TIG, which I couldnt get my head around at the time but for some reason it just works, he used to build chassis for Henri Pescarolo

Looking for advice I've got a crack on a dowdeswell board what do I need to consider when welding it.?
Do it in stages weld it all up at once it will overheat and crack or warp.
If you're worried about it warping bolt it to another one. V out the side you can see, weld it up, let it cool, then bolt it to the back of the good one and repeat for the other side.

The main reasons they break are wear ,ie worn thin or catching a heavy bit of ground to turn like a a hard piece of clay on the headland or because of a poorly adjusted or non exsistant stay .

If the mouldboard has worn thin the rear lower edge will be receding anyway and be affecting the ploughing negatively so replace the board and make sure your stays are all set nicely.

A new genuine ycn board won't cost anymore than another foreign plough genuine mouldboard more expensive than ucn though of course.

The usual reason for using SS filler rod is for higher carbon alloy steels to suck a little carbon out of the steel next to the weld to lessen the brittleness and cracking. Works OK for cast iron too.
