Welsh Sustainable Farming Scheme AND Protests

How many Welsh family farms derive all their income from solely farming? Most have the wife going out to work, holiday lets, son's driving for agricultural contractors etc , etc. probably end up with more hobby farmers.
Think Alps and similiar upland areas in Europe. Part time farmers, even where there are some subs....

Remember chatting with a farmer in Bavaria 25 yrs ago, farmed 70-80ac and had a full time job in town.

Slightly off topic.

Do any of you know how this new Labour Candidate is getting on?
Quite ironic that his parents are about as Blue Conservative as you can get.
They have an estate at Nr Cirencester, and own virtually all the village of Calmsden .
So does Henry Tufnell support the Welsh Governmentā€™s proposed legislation for greening policy related to farm payments.:banghead: :scratchhead:

She certainly was the least well received

Abi Reader was interviewed by Nick Sevini afterwards and repeated the Net Zero comment when he asked her why she was booed.
Guess she is only following the NFU party line in the pledge to be carbon neutral by 2040 (or whatever date it is).
However, it is not a stance that will play well for someone who wants to follow Aled Jones as president

I heard the Jeremy vine show and I'm sorry but one or two of the
farmers came across very poor.I wanted to grab the phone and tell
that misinformed anti sheep/beef caller that the 50% imported animal
feed ,soya she was referring to was going to mainly intensive chicken and
pork not grazed animals on the hills.
Also that one farmer saying she would potentially lose 60 acres to trees worth
Ā£900k isn't particularly helpful convincing the Welsh labour voters that farmers
need their support.

I too thought the bit where the lady sheep farmer said that her land would be devalued by Ā£900k wasnā€™t going to get much sympathy from the general public. It was a bit unfortunate because she was otherwise doing quite a good job of representing the industry.
The woman who said that Welsh farmers should give up rearing beef and sheep and concentrate on potatoes really needed pulling up a bit more as it would have been easy to pick holes in all her comments.

Trouble is, most of us do not have any media training and spout off when a microphone is thrust at you.

Instructive when you think about how often you alter or edit a post before pressing reply

A couple of livestream videos from today.

The mention of net zero by the speaker from NFU didn't go down well but that seems to have been a low point.
Looks like the police were expecting something completely different.

Well I thought it went well I was on one of the tractors thought we were being stopped within the first mile by the police they diverted us into a local retail park but just wanted us all together to read us a statement /plan. Obviously they had to be impartial but was very evident they were very much in support of us thatā€™s my interpretation at least,
We were never going to get anywhere close to the sennedd and where we were parked up to me was a good spot it was very visible to the public, serious amounts of waving horn blowing etc from other motorists on the roads during the drive down which was great to see
