You can't get more English than rods, chains and furlongs!

But yes, it's 22×220 yards.
Supposedly something to do do with how far a pair of oxen could plough before needing a rest, and how far across they'd get in a day. All a load of codswallop I think, just made up to justify it!

Yeah, cos were they South Devon oxen, or runty Shorthorns? Never mind how long is a day? Had they never heard of the Working Time Directive?:)
