just wondering if anyone knows what this is. Is it a type of rush or is it a grass? Also how do I kill it. It does not seem to be very palatable asNothing is eating it.

(P.S. a handy rhyme to distinguish grasses, sedges and rushes - 'sedges have edges, rushes are round, and grasses are hollow right down to the ground'. Sedges tend to have three-cornered stems, rushes and grasses have round stems, but rushes are filled with pith whereas grass stems are hollow. There are other differences too, e.g. in the flower structure)

They like low ph ground ,low phosphate too that sits wet for a long time.
Glyphosate only thing that kills em and maybe address soil status.
As said above they don’t like being cut short every year.

Deschampsia sp.

Most likely cespitosa, possibly flexuosa

Kill it with a grass spray, roundup might but something like Centurion (as sold in NZ, I think it is clethodim from memory) will see it off

Avoid selective grazing wherever possible, it is similar to rush in many respects
