Thanks all,

Generally, you are echoing what I've heard, that the Hilux is at the top of the pile for the right sort of money...

However, I've been offered a 2018 Mitsibushi L200, right milage, tidy, higher spec than what i would have wanted, but seems to be priced right.

Any opinions, good and bad on L200's?
Iā€™ve had an 18 plate l200 warrior for a year and I love it.Canā€™t really fault it at all other than being too big,but coming from a Terrano they all are

Bought a used 17 plate Navara King cab a few months back and I am very pleased with it. I tow a 14' triaxle with it and its a nice ride. Have had 4t on the trailer on a private road and pulled it fine.
On flat roads and a light foot it will do 50mpg (have seen 60mpg), driving what I consider normal it says 30-35, drive like a dick and it will go down to 7. Trailer knocks 10mpg off no matter.
Major plus point for me is it isn't constantly buzzing and beeping about lights, doors, seatbelts etc. Pet hate of mine, I know if the door is open thank you.

Iā€™ve had a 65 plate (early series 5) L200 for a year now and very pleased with it. Only 2 negatives are the towing limit of 3.1t (which it does very capably) and first gear is quite high. Other than that, I canā€™t really fault it. Very well speccā€™ed & comfortable, sits in low 30ā€™s for mpg unless I put a big trailer behind it and never seems hard worked even when itā€™s got 3.1t behind it.

A common fault on them is apparently the 3rd gear synchromesh failing, which is replaced under warranty if happens in first 5 years, or Ā£7-800 after, so make sure itā€™s been done.

Is that a problem with the six speed box then

Apparently so, with the truck popping out of gear when it's in third. Dealership told me that they did nearly all of them but it's not a recall for some reason, just a warranty repair (unless it doesn't go until later). Mine was just done, before the warranty ran out. 9 hours labour they said.

Regarding Ford Ranger, never had one (have had isuzu, L200 now on hilux}.
But I've got 2 friends who in past 12 months traded in Rangers at 4-5 yrs old as they were constantly flagging up errors and it was electronic gremlins in both cases.
One of them spent Ā£1400 in a month trying to get it sorted at garage.
