Its the first of June and i am frozen, covered in mud and wet through after getting in a fresh dropped lamb which was lying in a heap of hailstone. I have seen snow on the hills this week and its hardly been over ten degrees this spring and its more like five degrees today. I know us farmers can moan but this is getting past a joke :(

I'm sick as feck. We are normally getting burnt fencing in shorts. Sick of having to wear loads of clothes, it's been a bloody long winter for us lads an I can't wait to be able to work in shorts and a t shirt.

It is shite, gutter everywhere still feeding most of the cows can't put them to grass as they will just make a mess. Silage grass and barley doing buggar all.
2 stock bulls with bit of limp likely foot trouble with the mud, will look tomorrow.
Even the lambs and ewes don't look happy and aren't thriving.

Heating back on here. Feels like a November day, cold and wet. I've never seen the maize look so yellow.
Dairy farmer neighbour said there was a frost this morning, although I can't verify that!

Know doubt Simon can explain why it is so cold ,but that is NO consulation to us having to dress up, as if its mid winter to keep warm, no good for the animals either!!! Perhaps he will say farmers have short memories and it is quite often like this in June, I DON'T think so:banghead:

We had a warm winter but summer is slow to get going here. Here's a pic of the "expected" weather for this week. We're desperately in need of rain as everything is dry as a popcorn fart. Got wildfires all over the province and firefights in from all over the country. Each time were supposed to get rain to help out its just a little dribble and the clouds carry on. Complete fire ban on everywhere.

Crops are starting to come up here and the grass and trees are green at least even if they aren't growing very fast. There's some places a couple hours away that are covered with grasshoppers and caterpillars already though and others than haven't even started to green up because it's too dry.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
