I dont know what type of mulcher to get, (swinging flail type or rigid tooth) Thinking about the two types, is the flail type for loose vegetation and the fixed tooth for small trees still in the ground (it pushes them over and knaws away at them. Our application is fruit trees, some still in the ground and some already been grubbed 100 hp + ?

I have a Seppi mulcher, I chose rigid as apparently they sell very few with swinging flails as they are not as effective.

If there is any chance you would run your machine into solid debris like a manhole of a main sewer it is possible to break the rigid teeth off (as I have done). They then welding back on and the rotor balancing.

On the Seppi the swinging flails are held on with a single rotor width pin that holds each line of flails, this distorts over time making it impossible to remove to replace flails.

If you are going to be working in orchards then I think rigid would be best. I found the machine is very good but is a lot heavier than it looks and also takes a lot of power to drive, 1.5metre width would need 100hp tractor.

A hired one would be my choice but would love to hear how you get on. I have 20 acres of orchards to grub and can't see a way other than chainsaw and bonfire.

Digger and a root rake with a thumb, pull them out and heap in pile to burn. Or chop up main trunks and push up with telehandler.

I take it you are using a tractor not digger.. how many acres to do?
