what wormer as summer goes on?

Is Zolvix good? Its something we havent used before and claims to be the best wormer for july/august? There must be a catch...

Zolvix is a brand new wormer introduced about 3 years ago so at the moment there is no resistance to this product so would be "good" but no better than any other product which works. The problem is that none of the other products will necessarily be fully effective but this can only be known following a post-drench faecal egg count. The reason for using it in July/August is to slow down the development of resistance to the other products and is the time of year in which this will have the biggest impact. If you do have resistance to either Levamisole or Ivermectin/Moxidectin then I would definitely recommend using it. If you have resistance to all three of the older wormer groups then you have no option! Also, Zolvix is the best product for use as a quarantine treatment. There is also another group Startect which was released last year.

The 'catch' is that they are more expensive than the old groups and need to be gotten from a vet. Personally, I think the additional cost is worth it compared to the impact of worms and wormer resistance and definitely justifiable as a quarantine treatment.

Hope this helps
