What's the best treatment for warts on cattle?

I have a friend who had a Jersey heifer , a milking heifer, so by no means small, that was completely covered in warts. When I say covered, I mean absolutely covered over all her body. He pulled some of them off and dried them, ground them up and when she came into the parlour for milking , he put some of the dried wart powder into her trough with her cake. The warts had completely gone in a month. If I hadn't seen it myself, I wouldn't have believed it!

Autogenic vaccine works in the same way, take wart material and inject a vaccine made from them. Efficacy isn't that high.

Have a 480kg bullock with bad warts on his neck, what's the best thing to give him to get rid of them before I turn him out?
Tia.

Get vet to take a look. Can be cut off, cauterised and kept clean whilst it all heals. Only problem with them is that they attract flies and then are spread to other animals. Horrible things. Pain in the chuff on milking animals as they often get them on the teats/udders.

Big ones can be tied off with fishing line or elastrator rings but I've never seen anyone brave enough to do it... Old dairy man I used to work alongside will pull some off, in the belief that letting them bleed would trigger the body into fighting them off.

Last year had a first calf hefeir with a mass of warts on her teats. I was worried calf wouldn't be able to suckle...but it wasn't bothered and grew normally. This year her udder is clear of all warts. Took about 9 months to clear up.

Are warts infectious? Got one that has quite a few on the neck and 2 or 3 others with the odd few. Might be a problem when they come inside and rub on the feed barriers if so.

I'm not sure how long the wart virus can survive away from the animal, but it does seem to hang around buildings once it has come onto a farm.
A good cleanse and disinfect probably reduces the amount that cattle are exposed to, but if it's already in a bunch of them, then it will spread.

As further upthread, I'll send a thought to the Charmer ~ which should sort out the few of yours which are showing warts 😊
