Well, thought I’d be putting the drill away today! However got a call from a neighbour to see if I could do a bit for him as his drilling tractor had broken down.
So back on wheat again

Still chasing the plough but on a blue tractor for a change 🙄

I have often thought about picking up a cheap combi drill, removing the drilling components and routing the seed tubes to dribble seed in front of the power harrow tines. Would probably do a decent job in a wide range of conditions
Early Lely Combi drill, was made like this, guts unpinned and out. Supplied spreader bar (fish tails ) delivered seed into back of PH tines.

I am sure it wasn't!
And if it was, i'm sure its Beret Gold or Kinto, so as long as seed is not left on the surface, all's good.

There would be more seed left on the surface at the headlands when a conventional drill lifts out and seed falls to the ground until the metering system stops, and even then there's often a small delay as seed already metered filters through.

Or in another scenario a drill failing to close the slot properly leaving seed exposed to the surface. Or coulters bouncing up and down etc...
