Finished wheat. Only 80ac of beans to do next week. Worst seedbeds this year are as good as the best fields we get in a poor year. What an easy year. Some black-grass poking through first drilled winter barely, but nothing to make me regret what we have done so far. Hopefully not famous last words. All spring seedbeds worked down and prepared ready to drill. A few more days of spraying and then worry about pigeons in the rape.

If you're on BG land, can't believe enough has chitted by October 15 this year. Perhaps it's just me.

I guess it depends on what rain you have had??
This is the second flush about to be sprayed off from some ex Winter Bean ground...

the soil is so dry that even a big rain 2 inches would only delay things for a week
we have had 4 inches after a dry summer before and still managed to drill
after a wetter summer an inch shuts up shop

I looked at some barley drilled on the 20th September yesterday.some bare bits on the headland and when I dug down the seed is there but not germinated and no moisture whatsoever.luckily most of it is fine.wheat been in over two weeks is just the same.

All the stuff drilled 3 days ago has inch long roots on it. Trying to get the Pre em on but looks like it will be early next week. Quite tacky here now after 80mm in the last 3 weeks

No problem I went over the other day and sorted the headlands out and the bottom field around the trees, crops are looking good

65mm came in one day and I was a bit concerned but it dried up quite well. Anymore in that go and I would have been in trouble as everything had worked dow so fine

Drilled 4 good fields this last few days and woke up today to find them all underwater! The joys!

15 mm since it started raining but it looks like it's going to be very wet today ,,,,, once we get to 25 mm of rain it takes us a week before we even start looking at the fields
