When is something sold?

Knowing my luck, both A and B will disappear off the planet, and end up with C and D dithering and asking stupid questions about woodworm.:LOL:

In summary, I've come to the conclusion folks don't half fudge about.
Doing the right thing doesn't guarantee others will do right by you but at least you have a clear conscious and karma will probably bite them on the ass one day.

Contact man A up tell him the position, let him decide,
I wouldn't under sell an item, but dreamers do wind you up,
Some of which are member Tff ers,
Recently invoiced a Tff member, for some equipment, including delivery, all arranged, then says he hasn't the money,
I had other enquiries but told them sold.
Two days later he lists in machinery wanted, looking for items double the value of my supposed items, have PM'd my opinion to him, but no reply.
Am watching his wanted posting, seems like others on here are also likely to be disappointed,
Trust is a two way thing,

Ownership passes with the money -- and I won't take deposits!

The acid test is, if things go wrong, who loses by it in money terms?

If it's agreed to hold the item until A arrives to inspect it and the seller sells to B before A leaves home but doesn't bother informing A, A has a case to recover his expenses at least from the seller.

If A says he will buy unseen before leaving home but the seller gets a better offer and sells to B, A has no case if the seller immediately tells him because A hasn't lost anything in money terms, even though he may be disappointed to lose the sale.

Done that, got the T shirt. "Sold" to A over the phone. B turns up and offers twice as much. "Sorry, mate, I just sold to A". A then disappears. Go back to B and he has also disappeared, so I'm stuck with the item which now can't be sold as it's past it's sell by date!

If A is so keen, he can do an immediate money transfer/Paypal/thingy and we have a sale. Simples!

Blimey.

I would be very suspicious if this Man A and his gang keep ringing you all up constantly. Surely you'd start wondering about them? Sounds like A is the ringleader to me.

Sounds a bit like the old "Body in the woods found by a man walking his dog "

Don't the police ever get suspicious of this bloke if he keeps "finding" the bodies?

I sold a motor bike to Mr A at a discount price. He said he would collect next week and bring the cash with him.
Later same day Mr B rings and would come immediately with cash and buy at full price. I said I had done a deal already with Mr A so I would honour the deal.
You know where this is going don't you?
Mr A didn't come up with the money and Mr B bought something else in the meantime so I ended up paying more adverts and sold it even cheaper some months later!

It's very difficult to decide who to trust nowadays!

So in the OP's example that would be man B, yet man A could be driving quite a distance if he rang at 9 and wasn't getting there till lunch time resulting in a wasted day.

In the case of the OP I think I'd ring man A back and tell him there was someone else who wanted it and if he didn't show by 2pm it would be sold, tell man B the same, someone's coming to see it, if he ain't here by 2, deal can go ahead.
There's always the danger of falling between 2,stools but at least you've been straight with everyone.
Be honest and tell prospective buyers the truth

I rarely sell stuff privately but I have had this sort of problem in the past when selling a car so these days I just trade in if possible reasonin that the hit isn't so big if I factor in advert fees and my time and blood pressure. I just get so annoyed hanging round the yard for someone that doesn't show ul when I should be away at the other end of the farm ploughing or somesuch.
Last time I sold a car I told all keen callers 'It's here, it's to view but I'm not holding it and the first person to pay me can have it'

Biggest problem of all is not everybody is honest , straight and men of their word and do what they say they will . Doing the right thing and trying to be fair often results in being sh!t on !

True, but I'd rather do the right thing and have a clear conciounse, I don't do a lot of trade with strangers so hopefully I won't get caught too often.
