Although it may sometimes frustrate others, I often seek clarification before I reply to something - as I do believe by my writing something (especially if predictive text, or my own personal misspellings are not corrected in time), can result in misunderstanding between one another.

It's not intended, but none the less it can happen.

Well i find myself wanting to ask questions or tell everything about something I think is a good idea but now find I hold myself back because as soon as you hit "post" the usual negative posts start ripping my ideas to shreds or make me feel like i'm stupid. Is the idea of a forum not to discuss a topic like civilized adults and respect every ones opinion. I have learned a great deal from the forum and like everyone else enjoy the banter with other like minded folk and like to think I can add a little of my knowledge too but what use is it if you don't feel comfortable asking something you might be wrong about and face the wrath of those who always seem to know everything about everything.

for goodness sake just stick your idea out there. It doesn't matter if someone disagrees' you still may learn something. I always ask what I want and say what I want and it doesn't matter if sometimes I'm wrong (we all are sometimes) and doesn't really matter if someone disagrees with you, or if you think they're wrong. Accept that everything is very fluid on a forum its the nature of the beast.

Personally I would not let anything stop you from posting. Lets face it, if everyone held back we would be in such a sad state it would be disastrous.
Also - look back in history, when some were thought of as lunatics for their beliefs / ideas, but their ideas have led to medicines, machinery etc that have advanced the world (I nearly said civilised, but had to correct myself )

Do not let the Rear Orifices spoil your posting.most people on here are OK.I even enjoy reading the posts from the back end oil guru, generally. I find that round about there are a lot of farmers out there that if they were half as clever as they thought they were, they would be twice as clever as they really are.

There are a few of the usual critics who seem to spend a hell of a lot of time here too and I sometimes wonder if they have any work to do :woot: Perhaps they've retired - or just tired.

A similar fate has befallen Pistonheads, the motoring forum - the angry brigade rip into everyone for any reason (or none!) resulting in the less confident contributors leaving and the true experts (who give there expertise in the community interest) getting disillusioned.
Pistonheads is a longer established forum - the general areas have become a no go area for many due to the extremists, there are still good threads in the more specialist areas. There are signs that this place is following the same path. Would more rigorous monitoring/censorship be the answer? Not without its own problems of course.

It makes me quite sad to read some of these posts.

We have so many more members who are positive in nature and their postings, than we do ones who constantly post negatively, or who are ready to shout down the new member, sadly there is quite a bit of the latter lately from some who should know better.
For the few who have nothing to say in reply to a post other than to criticise the author on their spelling and grammar, think yourself lucky you have had the education to be able to spot it, but perhaps a lesson in manners would have been more apt.

Rather than dwell on those who drain us, perhaps best to ignore them, teach ourselves to say No before we type. Counteract that negative post if you have an opinion by voicing the positive.

We have some really smashing members who make us laugh out loud, educate, and coax detail from those who are perhaps not so good at getting their thoughts into the written word, long may they continue, and Thank You.:)

I think it's fine as it is. I don't mind the banter, I don't mind my ideas being shot to pieces as sometimes they really are cack.

This forum is a good place to test ideas and theories for the very reason that people are forthright and don't hold back as much as they do in person.

I always thought the rule that posts should not cause argument a particularly strange one. Without argument and questioning there would be no refinement of ideas. Needless provocation or insult of other members is a different matter and totally uncalled for.

But I have to say I haven't found any member on here to be intolerably offensive or argumentative. I've met some of the most argumentative in person buying and selling stuff and found them to be polite good mannered honest folk when face to face. It's the semi anonymity of the forum that tends to unleash the beast and often they only sound off because they believe passionately that they are right, not because they are out to cause trouble or deliberately insult other members.

Take it all with a large pinch of salt.
